Vintage Boudoir ~ Plymouth MA Photographer

Merry Christmas Eve to all! Before all the family get togethers, champagne, food and presents, I got a chance to sit down and retouch a recent photoshoot. Peppermint mocha latte from Dunky's in hand, I opened up my programs and got to work. The only question was what kind of post work to do?? Colorful, Black and white, soft, contrasty - the options are endless.

I may be late on the "old is new again" train but I am borderline obsessed with vintage imagery lately. I grew up in the "MTV" era where sexiness is portrayed as scantily clad, morally questionable and more raunchy than classy. There's something to be said for the days of old where the less you see, the more mysterious and thus, extremely sexy. Old Hollywood glamour is beckoning to me and I'm answering the call with camera in hand. ;) I was born in the wrong era..

I love being able to help another woman feel beautiful and great about themselves all while getting whimsically romantic images they can treasure forever. My Boudoir sessions focus on classy and romantic and this new vintage obsession of mine is fitting in rather nicely..

Here is a sneak peek of the lovely Natasha...

Birthday Boy! ~ Plymouth MA Children Photographer

From the minute I met this little guy, I knew we would get along famously. He greeted me with a huge smile and stole my heart immediately. There's just something about the little dudes! I mean, come on, those teeth...

His mom is an old classmate of mine and it was so great to catch up with her. It's amazing how almost 10 years has passed since I've seen her last!

So I'd like to wish Mr. "L" a Happy, Happy 1st Birthday and give his amazing parents a little sneak peek at what they have to look forward to for his photos. With a smile like that, how could I take a bad one?

Bridal Shoot ~ Plymouth Wedding Photographer

I did a "Dust off the Dress" shoot with an old high school classmate of mine. She was so easy to work with and up for anything, which I always love! We frolicked up and down Plymouth Beach and got some great photos - I had a blast! Thank You SO much Jen for putting up with me and being brave enough to bring your gorgeous dress onto the beach! Thanks go out also to Liz who came out to do makeup for us... you're the best. Always. (Get a website soon so I can link to you!!!)

What can be more satisfying than taking beautiful photos of a pretty woman in a gorgeous gown... on the beach? Did I mention I love being a photographer?

Fiesty Atlantic ~ Plymouth Photographer

My friend and I revisited Plymouth Beach last night to marvel in the monstrous sprays of the high tide waves. We listened to some Colin Meloy, got seaweed all over her car and she was patient with me as I took photo after photo - trying to time the windshield wipers with the biggest spray possible - was difficult but we were in for the long haul :)

I submitted one of the photos to the Patriot Ledger and they published it! Hurray!

Here's the image they liked and used in the article:

Get ready New Englanders, I think we're in for a wild ride this winter!

The Barn at Gibbett Hill - Matt and Meg's Wedding ~ Groton Photography

The wedding was colorful, the wind was powerful and the people were beautiful. I couldn't ask for anything more :)

Being relatively fresh faced to the business of wedding photography, each venue is completely new and exciting when I shoot there for the first time. It can be scary as it's all brand new to me but that's also why it's exciting! M & M had their ceremony and reception at Gibbett Hill in Groton MA and it was gorgeous. From the cows grazing on the hill to the chandelier lit barn.. I was overwhelmed with the understated elegance of this venue in the "country". (Not to mention.... the FOOD.)

Finding inspiration for wedding photography almost everyday, I have been dying to recreate a shot of a couple on top of a hill with nothing but a broad expanse of sky behind and above them. As Matt and Meg walked ahead of me on our way to shoot formals, I was pleasantly surprised that the hill we were on was just tall enough for me to give it a shot! A kiss on the cheek, wind blowing her dress... needless to say, I am SO happy with how it came out!

In closing I would like to thank Matt for making it OK for me to cry as they said their vows... ;)

Congratulations go out to the happy couple!!! Thank You so much for letting me be a part of your wedding day!

Fashion Shoot Sunday ~ Hanson Photographer

We came, we saw, we shot some fashion ;) Mixed 2 of my favorite pastimes; Urban exploring and taking photos of awesome people dressed up fancy. The location is an oldie but goodie and I haven't been there for years. It was nice to come back with new people and experience this abandoned place again, with a fresh perspective.

Liz (our makeup artist) and my lovely models (Freya and Amber) were all beyond amazing to work with. Seriously. We listened to various metal songs whilst getting ready.. it was an excellent precursor to sifting through rubble in fishnets and corsets ;)

These are some of my favorites from this shoot - and a couple of all time.. I love my job. <3

Buns in Ovens ~ MA Maternity Photography

Everytime I shoot maternity photos (which has only been twice), it brings me back to...ohhh.. 8 years ago when I was pregnant with my son. Time flies and life is sweet... take a minute to breathe deep, kick back and slow down a bit. They grow up before you know it! I can't believe J is going into 3rd grade...

This couple is one of my favorites - they were cracking up the whole time, being hilarious and making me laugh. Needless to say, we got along great :) Baby was moving around in H's belly, making his/her presence known! Can't wait to meet you little one!

Ahoy, Mateys! ~ Plymouth MA Photographer

I got the honor of hanging out with a bunch of adorable pirates today in honor of a couple birthday boys! I've never been on the pirate cruise in Plymouth Harbor and it was a swashbuckling good time! A beautiful day for boating around in the ocean, fighting pirates, divvying up treasure and taking photos. I had to post a couple as a sneak preview for K as she worked really hard on this (with broken fingers, no less!) and she deserves to have a peek at the photos I snagged.. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed taking them!! Thanks for having me :)

Sneak Peek.... ~ PA Fashion Photography

I can't help it!! Worked very hard retouching photos yesterday from 9am until 2am this morning (with some breaks in between... a girl gets hungry!).

Last month I had the opportunity to work with an up and coming fashion designer from Philly named Nikki, "Bizarre Boudoir". She was such a sweetheart and her clothing kick started some sort of new phase in my photographic style. Part Vogue, part painting..? It's hard to pinpoint but ever since I saw her designs online and spoke with her about doing a shoot together, I've been gravitating to a new direction artistically.. not sure where that will lead me but the ride has been a blast so far! (Except going through NY in 2 hr traffic to get home from PA - not so much!

This journey as an artist is absolutely personal and unpredictable.. I have no idea where I'm heading but I feel like each photo I take is a clue, a tiny inkling of who I want to become as a photographer. I have much to learn still and will figure out my style eventually- until then, I make the photos that make me happy :)

Giant props go out to my models Shawna and Lily! It was a long day; hot and hectic - they made it work AND look beautiful at that... couldn't have done it without you two! :)

Babies galore.. ~ Plymouth Photographer

There are so many AMAZING photographers out there in the world - sometimes you come across a site and it takes your breath away. The ability to inspire someone just with your images is such a gift.. I hope someday to do the same for other people!

I'm surrounded by people having new babies and thus, newborn photography has been in the front of my mind! The tiny hands and feet, soft fuzzy heads and little coo's of a brand new baby can fill your heart with wonder. Some photographers recognize that beauty and capture a small fraction of it in their images... here is my favorite so far that I found in my online travels, Carrie Sandoval. Her work is so gorgeous, it can't help but inspire!

The most talented newborn photog I have ever seen! Please go check out her page, it's breathtaking...

much love,
~Shann~
